YMCA Wimbledon

Centrally located on the Broadway in the heart of Wimbledon, the seven-storey YMCA building is a landmark rich in history. Since the grand opening by Her Majesty the Queen Mother in April 1974, YMCA Wimbledon has been home to tennis legends like Roger Taylor and Chuck McKinley, a former US No 1. Today, it provides ACCOMMODATION, by referral, SOFT PLAY and children’s activities and HEALTH AND WELLBEING services including a gym, group exercise classes and a healthy-eating café.

Health & Wellbeing

Join our Health & Wellbeing Centre and discover a well-equipped and friendly gym where you can you can work out in the functional fitness sports hall, or use our boxing facilities and cardio machines. We also run over 50 exercise classes a week, including indoor cycling, Pilates, yoga and Insanity.  There is something for all levels of fitness and we welcome anyone over the age of 11.

We offer competitive and affordable membership packages as well as pay-as-you-go options. Corporate memberships, student memberships and discounted prices for young people aged 11-15 are also available.  Call in to see us and talk through which membership is right for you.

Included with membership is the personalised Get Started programme, five one-to-one appointments with our qualified fitness staff.

The Health & Wellbeing Centre at YMCA Wimbledon is located on the ground floor and is fully IFI accredited.

Our passionate and engaged staff are also on hand to help if you have a medical condition. With the Exercise Referral programme, a 12-week personalised fitness and exercise programme.

You might also like to keep active buy joining us on one of our bi-monthly walks.  These excursions are free and open to all. We explore beautiful places in the community with like-minded friendly people of all ages.

Children’s activities

Combine your work out at YMCA Wimbledon with a visit to Pod2, the fun soft play facility within YMCA Wimbledon for active under 8s.

Here, toddlers and young children can jump, slide, wriggle and crawl their way around the brightly coloured, multi-sensory structure using their imaginations and being physically active.

Whatever the weather, Pod2  is a great place to bring a play date, throw a party and get to know other parents and children living in the local area.

During school holidays, the children can attend our Ofsted-registered playschemes which run from St John Fisher RC Primary School near Raynes Park.  This fantastic, affordable childcare solution is perfect for busy parents juggling their time and can be booked by the day or for the full week.  YMCA Wimbledon also runs an after-school club from here, providing  a safe and fun place to play after the end of the school day.

Accommodation and support

The hostel at YMCA Wimbledon is for homeless people from the local area who are referred from Merton Council and other homelessness agencies.  It sleeps up to 111 people, who can stay for up to two years.

All residents get support according to their individual needs. Residents are invited to take part in training and life skills courses, volunteering, arts and drama projects, day trips and personal developing programmes and projects.

Café and healthy eating

The spacious café at YMCA Wimbledon serves good, wholesome food at affordable prices for adults and children.

This quiet restaurant is open daily, 9.30am – 3.30pm  and is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle on the High Street and sit down for a chat with friends.

Proceeds from sales are used to fund YMCA projects that help vulnerable local people.

We believe that eating healthily vital for a healthy lifestyle.  For this reason, we work with Faircatch and Sutton Community Farm to distribute fresh fish and organic vegetables to the community which you can order through their websites.

Directions and parking

The centre has very limited parking spaces, but is just a short walk from Wimbledon train station and South Wimbledon tube station and several local buses stop just outside.
