Excursions, walks, meet ups and more…

Our fortnightly walks start from YMCA Surbiton, leaving promptly at 10am and returning mid-afternoon. They are free of charge and you will need to pay for your own expenses, such as transport and refreshments. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are in good enough health to participate in these walks.

Wednesday March 1; Chiswick on Thames

We take the bus to Chiswick, then walk along the riverside to Putney, crossing at Hammersmith Bridge.   Lunch in Putney and a return home by bus. [About 4.5 miles, flat but may be muddy in places.]

Wednesday March 15; The Valley of the River Crane

This walk follows the River Crane from Hanworth to Twickenham, through Crane Valley Park.  We travel by bus to the start and by bus again after lunch in Twickenham. [About 3.5 miles, flat and probably muddy.]

Excursions  are a great way of getting out and about, visiting beautiful places as well as socialising with friends and meeting new people. Join us on a monthly excursion with pick up from YMCA Surbiton at 9.30am.  Trips are limited to 14 spaces so book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Thursday 16 February: Hall Place and Gardens

Sitting on the banks of the River Cray in Bexley, Hall Place is a stunning Tudor House with beautiful grounds to match. It was built in 1537 by wealthy merchant and former Lord Mayor of London, Sir John Champneys. The house has undergone a few renovations over the years due to various owners which have only added to the beauty and history of the house. The gardens include the remains of a watermill and a highly fashionable pleasure garden amongst other things. On site you can also enjoy a butterfly jungle, plant shop, gift shop and the delicacies offered at the Riverside café whilst looking out over the gardens and river.

Senior Social Members, £ 21; Non-members, £24

Thursday 23 March: Capel Manor Gardens

First established in the late 13th century, the beautiful gardens stretch over 30 acres. They surround a picturesque Georgian Manor House and Victorian Stables. There is so much to enjoy over the day including but not limited to a Japanese garden, The Queen Mother’s garden, Sunflower Street, Le Jardin De Vincent, Growing Together in Faith garden, Koi Pond and Italianate Maze. For a break from exploring you can enjoy hot and cold food and drink in the Terrace restaurant or peruse the Hessayon visitor centre and gift shop.
